Bookstore

Zhi-Wen asked me where I bought the books. Well, I bought them at this little place here. It’s right around the corner . Nah, just kidding. I took this picture last year in one of my favorite places on earth. Toronto feels like a second home to me .

Anyway, I bought the second hand books at De Slegte. I bought the first four in Den Haag (The Hague) and the other four in Rotterdam. The Rotterdam store had a better selection.

But sure, book exchange, anyone? Right now, most of my novels are from Robin Cook or John Grisham. I should make a list. I’m kinda new to this, so I need to find out which other writers did good novels. Suggestions, anyone?

New Layout: Version 27

Layout version 27. Weblog: 307 posts, 1733 comments, 175 images/pictures in the blog. Guestbook: 465 entries. Tagboard: 1487 tags. Gallery: 78 albums, 3708 pictures, 132 comments. Forum: 421 posts. Site: 206 php files, 135 image files (gallery and weblog excluded).

I took the picture somewhere in summer 2003. It’s actually just a pretty random picture, where I move my camera to capture the lights in the city. I think it looks really interesting. Anyway, here’s the new layout.

Edit: To maureen: The “logo” up top and the “Shine your light of inspiration” line aren’t fonts. Those are actually my own handwriting, hehe. My handwriting usually sucks, but I took some time to write these ones up

More books

I always wanted to have a wall full of books when I get old. And I guess I have to start somewhere. And some time. So why not now? I bought the books on the left last Thursday or Friday, and the books on the right last Saturday. They’re second hand though.

If I’d buy them new, they’d be around E12,95 each. Which is way too much, considering the book is (calculated) around US$15,33) here, and the usual street price in the US is US$7,99. So I’ll just get second hand books.

You know, once I’m in the bookstore, I usually go straight to the English pockets/novels section. And it’s like candy store. I could buy so much stuff there, if I had enough time and money and hands.

Sporks and foons

A clean up at my parents’ home sometimes means new stuff at my place. I now have enough spoons and forks to go through a week without doing the dishes (and spoons and forks).

My weekend: Saturday Chinese school. On Sunday: appearantly I was really tired, so I overslept So I didn’t go to church. I was awake in time to go to Rijswijk for dancing. David is pretty strict when teaching. I’m not sure if I ever will be able to dance like him, hehe. Anyway, it was fun, even if we had to miss Cherryl. Just the 4 guys and 3 girls right now. Now again, we have more guys than girls. I’ve been in 3 dancing schools before, and now this formation/streetdance group. And only in the first school there were more girls than guys, all the times after that there’s been more guys than girls. So, I guess we have to go recruit another girl for our group.

A reply on Angela and Stacy’s comments from last entry: Hmm, obviously you too haven’t read too many books, eh? All average novels are that thick. Wait till you read books that are like 800-900 pages. And even reading those, sometimes the story can be so exciting, the pages keep on turning. Just like that.

Reading

I just finished Ignition by Kevin J. Anderson and Doug Beason. I read it for the 2nd time, I think. I’m now reading Abduction by Robin Cook. I think it’s the 3rd time I’m reading this now. So you see, it sometimes is worth it to buy books. Oh yeah, these are English books. I usually prefer reading English novels over Dutch ones (there are exceptions, though.)

Phone number words

My previous entry was on 4 May, but after 4 May comes 5 May. And on 5 May we celebrate Liberation Day in the Netherlands, which is a national holiday. Anyway…

Those letters next to the numbers on a phone aren’t too useless after all. I entered my phone number on Phone Spell.org. Too bad my home number isn’t resulting in any cool words… But part of my cellphone number can be dailed while spelling “I Miss U.” Pretty cool, eh?

Silence / Nationale dodenherdenking

It’s 4 May, 20:00. Here in the Netherlands, at this moment, we take some silence to remember those who died during World War II. Everyone takes a of silence. All the Dutch TV channels too, and they show the remembrance of it in Amsterdam at the Dam monument. The day is resumed with the national anthem.

Today, 4 May 2004, there’s still war in the world. There’s still countries fighting, and people suffering and dying. Will we ever learn from the past?
