Zoomed in 100 Times

Taken: 15 January 2007, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I’m currently doing research on muscle fibers. The dark ones you see in the image are of one type, the light ones are other types. The view has been zoomed in 100x, which is a lot more than my “normal” camera-lens combination can do.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Oh, and it still didn’t snow here (except for one little good-for-nothing layer of snow last week), so still no snow pictures and no snow fun. Oh well.

Carine: These are fibers. The colored ones are stained for myosin heavy chain-cardiac α, and they are considered slow. Most of the non-colored ones are actually fast. So you can kinda see them as slow and fast twitch fibers, but the muscle as a whole… It’s a jaw muscle, by the way.

Firedrain

Taken: 16 August 2006, Berlin, Germany.

I think these are firedrains. With the emphasis on think. (Plus I’m too lazy to research the German words, but “aufgang” means something like “way out” and “Löschwassereinspeisung” has “water” in it). But why would they need so many? And what happened to A and I?

Okay, new layout. Version 34. Some things still need to be fixed, but overall, I think it works. I hope you all like it. Oh, and it’s optimized for Mozilla/Firefox and Opera. Not sure how it works in IE7 or Safari, but it does have some minor issues with IE6. Oh well. Just get Firefox or Opera.

Throw it away

Taken: 14 August 2006, Berlin, Germany.

Do you recycle?
In The Netherlands, we usually recycle paper and glass.
In some cities, organic waste is separated from the rest.
Cans you can just throw in the trastcan.

PS: Comments are fixed! I think. Thanks, Vicky.

Entrance to the Sewers

Taken: 14 August 2006, Berlin, Germany.

Today, it’s 8°C and sunny in The Netherlands.
C’mon, where’s my snow?
Who stole it from me?

Jenny: It’s just a sewer lid. But thanks for your compliment that it’s a professional picture, hehe.
Saffe: I’ll check the RSS tomorrow, okay? And maybe fix it, too.
Jenny and Denise: Nope, not the CN Tower. Not all towers are the CN Tower :)
Vicky: Actually, those people were just about to walk into the picture, hehe.

Hello

Taken: 19 December 2006, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Okay, so graffiti isn’t really a good thing, but I like what it says here.
“Dag, lieve medemens!”

Which means something like: “Hello there, dear fellow human being!”
